The Martini

 

gin or vodka + vermouth + olive or lemon twist

The Martini is probably one of THE most iconic american inventions. From James Bond to Karen Walker it defines the dapper diva in all of us. Nowadays the term “martini” (or more specifically the suffix “-tini”) is a placeholder to just about any sweet booze you can pile into it’s famous triangular glass. This month, Distillery Row is sticking to recipes born at the dawn of the cocktail era we still find ourselves evolving.

Clear spirit base- your preference.

Vermouth- to drown in or simply look at.

Olive or twist.

The main consistency among our recipes will be in technique. The steps are as follows:

  1. Chill a cocktail glass or martini glass by either filling it with ice or storing it in the freezer for at least 10 minutes.

  2. Combine spirit and vermouth (and any auxiliary spirits like elderflower if you prefer) in a mixing glass with ice.

  3. Stir for 15 second or until the outside of the mixing glass is almost too cold to touch.

  4. Strain into your chilled glass.

  5. garnish with a olive (for a briny-oceanic flavor) or olive twist (best with a botanical base like gin).
